Independent Mediators in 2016

What a year 2016 was for Independent Mediators….

First and foremost, we welcomed Andrew Paton to our group. A fantastic addition to our team.

In numbers:
We received enquiries from over 1,000 sources, the team mediated more than 500 mediations, with claim values totalling over £3bn.

Around the world:
Our mediators travelled to Paris, Vienna, Canada, Barbados, New Zealand, Norway and Guernsey amongst others to participate in conferences and training sessions for industry associations such as the ICC and the International Academy of Mediators as well as in-house companies. They mediated in all corners of the British Isles, the Channel Islands, Amsterdam, Nigeria and Dubai to name a few.

Some individual highlights:
A tremendous achievement for Phillip Howell-Richardson assisting parties to settlement of one of the largest scale and most involved mediations any of our team have encountered. The matter took place over a four year period, involved international parties and mediation meetings in three different countries.

Nicholas Pryor celebrated 30 years as a mediator, making him one of, if not the, longest serving mediator in the UK with Charles Dodson following closely behind.

Bill Marsh organised and chaired, an 11 country meeting in Minsk, capital of Belarus, in October 2016, in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to focus on the resolution of commercial disputes across the region. The two days of talks welcomed representatives from Ministries of Justice and courts of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine. The focus was on the challenges to implementing and growing commercial mediation across the region.

Jonathan Lloyd-Jones was involved as a mediator and judge in mediation competitions in Paris and Vienna, and he is also presenting the RICS course on Evaluative Mediation.

Mark Lomas QC continues to be one of the most in demand commercial mediators in the UK.

Kate Jackson and Michel Kallipetis QC feature in the list of top 5 most highly regarded mediators in England by the international directory, Who’s Who Legal: Commercial Mediation 2016.

Michel is also one of those representing the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the International Academy of Mediators at the UNCITRAL mediation talks.

Coming up in 2017
We are looking forward to celebrating our 10th Anniversary this year so look out for celebration arrangements during the year.
