LIDW21 member-hosted event with Bill Marsh speaking at the session, ‘stepping back from the brink: turning from dispute to settlement.’

We were delighted to sponsor London International Disputes Week 2021 (LIDW21) which took place last month.

The event focused on 16 core sessions and some 70 member and sponsor hosted events, a series of keynote speeches, two fireside chats, and various networking events. LIDW21 increased its participant numbers to over 1,150 individuals from 66 countries attending the core ticketed programme and an estimated total of approximately 7,500 attendances at the member-hosted events.

Independent Mediators were delighted to participate in one of these member-hosted events with Bill Marsh speaking at the session, ‘stepping back from the brink: turning from dispute to settlement.’ During the session the speakers, including three mediators, one solicitor turned mediator and a chartered psychologist looked at how you get your client from “litigation mode” to “settlement mode.” What are the psychological factors in play in a negotiation? What are the roadblocks to settlement and how can you overcome them? And how do you encourage your opponent to think positively about settlement possibilities? The session looked at the psychological influences in play, and the tools required, to settle cases.

At this event alone there were 318 attendees from 37 countries, including Norway, Madagascar, China, Kenya, Malaysia, India, Portugal, Sweden and the Cayman Islands! The feedback received from attendees was fantastic, some examples below;
